Trends and Patterns of FDI Inflow in India: A Thematic Review of Sectoral Analysis

Sandhya Swarnkar and Sanjeeva Shukla

This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) equity inflows into India across key sectors from the early 2000s to the 2024-25. By synthesizing data from parliamentary documents and government visualizations, the study identifies significant trends, growth patterns, and volatilities in sectors such as Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Power, Telecommunications, and Agriculture. The findings reveal a shifting landscape of investor confidence, highlighting sectors that have emerged as stable attractors of capital versus those experiencing significant fluctuations. This thematic review offers valuable insights for policymakers and investors aiming to understand the dynamics of FDI in one of the world's fastest-growing economies
